Cosmelan

It is a professional depigmentation method that effectively reduces pigment spots such as melasma, sun damage, acne scars, and hormonal changes. The treatment combines an in-clinic procedure with a customized home care routine for long-lasting results. Cosmelan works by inhibiting the enzyme tyrosinase, which is responsible for melanin production, thereby reducing existing spots and preventing new ones. Results are visible already after 7–10 days, with maximum effect achieved after 7–8 weeks. The treatment is suitable for all skin types and can be performed year-round, including during summer when sun protection is used. Cosmelan is free of hydroquinone and has a high safety margin.

How does the treatment work?

The treatment course lasts between 3 and 9 months and requires both a professional in-clinic treatment and follow-up home care. A customized treatment plan is made for you prior to the procedure.

  • In the clinic: First, your skin is cleansed, and then a mask called Cosmelan 1 is applied, which is left on for 6–12 hours (the exact time will be agreed with your practitioner).

  • At home: The home treatment continues for 3–9 months in 3 phases using a treatment kit provided at the clinic along with your first treatment.

    • Phase 1: During the 1st month, use Cosmelan 2 (3 times daily) followed by Melan Recovery and sunscreen, supplemented with Hydracream Fusion and Hydratonic Mist.

    • Phase 2: During the 2nd month, use Cosmelan 2 (2 times daily) followed by Melan Recovery and sunscreen, supplemented with Hydracream Fusion and Hydratonic Mist.

    • Phase 3: During the 3rd month, use Cosmelan 2 only at night followed by Melan Recovery and sunscreen during the day, supplemented with Hydracream Fusion and Hydratonic Mist.

You should expect to purchase 1–2 Mesoestetic Cosmelan Home Packs during your treatment course, depending on the length of your individual plan. It is also recommended to use Mesoestetic skincare products tailored for depigmentation to avoid any reduction in treatment effectiveness or adverse reactions from using other products during the treatment.

What is the effect of the treatment?

During the first treatment, the peeling penetrates deeply into the skin and removes hyperpigmentation by neutralizing pigment production. The peeling initiates skin peeling, with the dark-pigmented skin starting to peel off after 4–7 days, after which the skin will already look better. The timing of the maximum result depends on your skin type.

The treatment is very effective but works gradually because pigmentation can lie deep in the skin. In 5% of cases, the pigment may lie so deep that the treatment is not sufficiently effective.

It is important to set realistic expectations before treatment. Treatments are non-refundable.

Makeup can be applied after one week. We always recommend the use of sunscreen both before and after the treatment, including UVA and UVB filters.

Who cannot be treated?

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women

  • Relevant allergies

  • Keloid formation

  • Use of isotretinoin within the last 2 months

  • Active infections, herpes, viral infections, or active skin diseases including acne

  • Recent radiation therapy

  • Cancer patients

  • Those undergoing hormone treatment, including treatment with cortisone creams

Possible side effects?

After treatment with Cosmelan 1, mild redness is observed. Immediately after the treatment, the skin feels warm and may be red. In the following days, the skin tightens and becomes very dry. The skin may darken and turn red. Skin peeling begins within 2–3 days and can continue for up to 4 weeks.

The skin will remain slightly red after peeling, with redness gradually fading.
