What is HARmonyCa?
HARmonyCa is a semi-permanent hybrid filler, and is one of the newest forms of biostimulators on the market.
The product consists of sterile, very small and fine microspheres of calcium hydroxylapatite in a sterile hyaluronic-based gel, which is designed to provide a lifting and firming effect, with its high viscosity and elasticity. Thanks to the soft, malleable gel, an injection with HARmonyCa provides both an immediate result and a long-lasting effect, because the microspheres stimulate the skin's own collagen production.
HARmonyCa is effective for both filling wrinkles, as well as lifting and contouring, and is perfect for treating the beginning signs of aging. The product has a long-lasting effect, usually 1-2 years, but disappears completely from the body over time. HARmonyCa contains 0.3% lidocaine and therefore has a numbing effect during the treatment itself.
Treatment with HARmonyCa may only be performed by dermatologists and plastic surgeons due to the longer-lasting effect than with non-permanent fillers.
What areas can be treated?
HARmonyCa can be used for treatment on the face and hands.
How is the treatment done?
The product is injected into the desired treatment area with a very thin blunt needle. The treatment is not completely painless, a stinging and burning sensation may occur, but will quickly subside. Numbing cream is not necessary as there is an anesthetic in the product. The treatment comes with minimal discomfort and is easy to handle.
You should avoid touching the treated area for 4 hours after the treatment due to the risk of infection. Applying make-up to the area is also not recommended during the same period.
Until the swelling has completely subsided, extreme heat such as sun and sauna is not recommended, and direct cooling with ice is also not recommended.
What is the effect of the treatment?
The effect of the treatment is individual and depends on many different factors, such as the structure of the skin and the desired degree of perfection.
Due to its dual action, the HA (Hyaluronic Acid) component provides an immediate lifting effect, while the CaHA (Calcium Hydroxyapatite) spheres trigger continuous collagen stimulation through activating fibroblasts. As a result, new collagen fibers can be present already one week after the treatment. The expected effect of the treatment duration is 1-2 years.
At a possible check after the treatment when the product has adapted to the tissue, and at this time it is possible to apply more on top of what was first applied, if additional effect is needed. It cannot be expected that more product will be applied free of charge. It is important to align expectations before treatment. Refunds for the treatment will not be made.
Who cannot be treated?
Pregnant and breastfeeding
If you have relevant allergies
If you have infections in the area: acne, herpes or other local infections
If you have connective tissue diseases
If you are taking immunosuppressive or blood-thinning medications
There should usually be at least 4 weeks between HARmonyCa and laser treatments. Always talk to your practitioner about combining treatments.
Possible side effects?
Immediately after treatment, there is a risk of mild to moderate swelling, redness, tenderness and bruising. These reactions typically disappear within a few days and in most cases within 1 week.
Infection is rare. If you see any signs of this, contact the clinic as antibiotic treatment may be necessary to reduce the risk of permanent scarring. Some people develop a pimple-like rash in the treated area and herpes cold sores may reactivate.
In some cases, Hyaluronidase can be used to remove the injected product. However, you must not be allergic to wasps and bees and you must remain in the clinic for 30 minutes after the injection for observation for allergic side effects.
In very rare cases, redness of the skin may occur, which may last for several months, or granulomas (connective tissue nodules under and in the skin itself) may form. Very rarely, permanent changes are left that are difficult to treat. In very rare cases, injection of the product into vessels may occur with sudden darkening of the skin or pallor, which worsens in the hours after treatment. It is important to contact the clinic so that treatment can be initiated as soon as possible. This also applies to visual impairment.
Failure to treat visual impairment can, in extreme cases, lead to damage to the eye and, in very extreme cases, blindness. This side effect has never been seen in Denmark, but has been described abroad.
NB! Your dentist should be informed that treatment with HARmonyCa around the mouth can most often be seen on X-rays.
