Jessner Peeling is a medium-depth chemical peel that combines salicylic acid, lactic acid, and resorcinol for effective exfoliation of the skin. The treatment targets acne, hyperpigmentation, and signs of aging by promoting the shedding of dead skin cells and stimulating collagen production. The result is clearer skin with a more even tone and improved texture.
Jessner Peeling is suitable for various skin types and can be tailored to individual needs. After the treatment, mild peeling and redness may occur, with full healing usually within one week.
Our experienced practitioners ensure that the procedure is customized to your specific skin concerns to achieve the best possible result.

What is Jessner peeling?
A peeling is a treatment of the skin using a chemical solution. Peelings can reduce irregularities in skin pigmentation, increase the formation of elastic fibers in the dermis, stimulate the formation of new skin and the skin’s ground substance, which binds moisture in the skin.
Peelings can be used for acne, rosacea, acne scars, fine wrinkles, and pigment changes (including melasma). There are several different types of peelings. Very superficial peelings, which are usually performed by cosmetologists, and medium-depth peelings, which are performed by specially trained nurses and doctors.
Apex uses superficial peelings with Retinol, Jessner peelings, salicylic acid peelings, PH peeling (only in Aalborg), as well as TCA peeling.
Jessner peelings are especially useful for acne and rosacea, as well as mild acne scars, mild wrinkles, and melasma. Jessner peeling is toxic and is a very effective peeling, but it can cause side effects (see below).
We recommend a Jessner peeling every 3 months.
How does the treatment work?
The skin must be free of makeup and is then cleansed with alcohol and acetone to remove all dirt and oil. The peeling solution is applied in several layers to the skin. A medium-depth Jessner peeling stings and burns the skin.
After a medium-depth Jessner peeling, a whitish mask forms on the skin, and slight redness is visible underneath. Immediately after the peeling, the skin feels warm. In the following days, the skin tightens and becomes very dry. The skin may darken and turn red. The skin begins to peel within 2-3 days. After peeling, the skin is slightly red. The redness gradually fades over 2 weeks. Makeup can be applied after 3 days.
After a Jessner peeling (medium), the skin must be applied several times daily with a cream. It is important to keep the skin moisturized with cream throughout the healing process. If the skin starts to ooze, vinegar water should be used to cleanse the skin. This is made by mixing ½ liter of boiled and cooled water with one capful of ordinary white vinegar. Gauze pads or cotton cloths soaked in the vinegar water are applied to the skin 4 times daily for 10 minutes at a time. The vinegar water prevents infection.
For all types of peeling, it is important to avoid sun exposure completely as long as the skin is affected after the treatment. That means as long as there is slight redness in the skin, since otherwise dark pigmentation may occur.
You should avoid sports, sauna, chlorinated water, and swimming in lakes. Avoid direct shower spray on the area so the water does not increase peeling prematurely. Avoid scratching, picking, itching, or touching the peeled area unnecessarily to reduce the risk of scarring and infection.
We always recommend using sunscreen both before and after the treatment with SPF 50+ including UVA and UVB filters.
What is the effect of the treatment?
After a few treatments, the result is visibly smoother and fresher skin with fewer fine wrinkles, less acne and pigmentation, and a nicer texture. The skin can look several years younger after a Jessner peeling. The result is basically permanent, but the skin will continue to age with the changes this entails.
The longer the healing time, the greater the risk of infections and scarring. Therefore, for example, on the backs of the hands, peelings normally do not go deeper than superficial peeling. On the neck and chest, a medium-depth peeling can be done, but it may be better to do several superficial peelings instead, as the skin on the neck and chest does not heal as quickly as the skin on the face.
It is important to have a clear agreement on expectations before the treatment. Treatments are non-refundable.
Who cannot be treated?
Pregnant and breastfeeding women
If you have relevant allergies
If there is an active infection in the area, including active herpes
If recent surgery has been performed in the area
Use of isotretinoin must have ended at least 1 month before treatment
Possible side effects?
Immediately after a Jessner peeling, there is a risk of infection and redness. Very rarely, scarring can occur. Allergic reactions to the chemical solution may occur. Although rare, there is a risk of temporary or permanent discoloration of the skin in the treated area. Some people have a genetic tendency to this more than others. The risk of pigmentation errors can also increase with the use of birth control pills or pregnancy after treatment.
In very rare cases, there is a risk of severe scarring, especially in people prone to keloid or other irregular scarring. There is also a risk of infection by bacteria, viruses, or fungi. Infection presents as redness, tenderness, swelling of the skin, and possibly fever. There is a risk of herpes outbreak if you have had cold sores before.
Old pigmentations may also become more pronounced temporarily, but this will be transient. When treating acne, the acne may initially worsen before it improves.
