Ruptures of blood vessels

Reduce your broken capillaries using the safest methods on the market.

Most of us will, over time, experience unwanted broken capillaries on the face or chest. Broken capillaries are often hereditary but can also be caused by sun exposure. Additionally, they may appear as a late reaction to radiation treatments for cancer.

The good news is that you don’t have to live with broken capillaries on your face and chest. It’s actually relatively easy to get rid of them with the right treatment method.

What are broken capillaries?

Broken capillaries—such as those on the face, neck, and décolleté (upper chest area)—can develop as part of the natural aging process and especially if you’ve had extensive sun exposure or tanning throughout your life. They can also appear as part of skin conditions like rosacea, or as a late reaction to radiation treatments for cancer or steroid use, as well as other types of stress to the skin.

The area to be treated is exposed to a flash of light lasting only a few milliseconds, which heats the vessels while protecting the surrounding skin as much as possible. The damaged vessels are then broken down by the body’s natural repair systems, leading to the desired effect.

Which areas can be treated?

We treat broken capillaries using IPL on the face, neck, and décolleté.

How does the treatment work?

It is important that the skin is not sunburned before the treatment. You must avoid sun exposure to the treatment area for 4 weeks before and 4 weeks after the procedure, and also refrain from using self-tanner for at least 2 weeks prior.

The treatment itself feels like a warm tingling sensation, which may persist in the skin for a few minutes afterward. You may take 1 gram of paracetamol about an hour before the session to minimize discomfort.

We always recommend using sunscreen both before and after the treatment with SPF 50+ including UVA and UVB protection.

What are the results of the treatment?

The results are generally quite effective but can vary from person to person depending on the size, location, and cause of the vessels. Often, repeated treatments are necessary with several months in between. In rare cases, the vessels cannot be completely removed. The treatment does not prevent the development of new broken capillaries, so maintenance treatments 1–2 times per year are advised.

It’s important to set realistic expectations before treatment. Payments are non-refundable.

Who should not receive treatment?

  • Pregnant individuals

  • Individuals with relevant allergies

  • Skin type V–VI (dark skin tones)

  • Tattoos or permanent makeup in the treatment area

  • Keloid formation

  • Active skin diseases, skin cancer, or coagulation disorders

  • Those taking medication or herbal supplements that cause photosensitivity or blood thinning

  • Active infection in the area, including active herpes

  • Individuals with epilepsy

  • Those who have had sun exposure in the treatment area within the last 4 weeks or used self-tanner within 2 weeks

Possible side effects

The skin may become red and warm immediately after the treatment, possibly with localized bluish discoloration. It often feels like a sunburn. Some patients may experience swelling, especially in the face around the eyes. These side effects usually subside within a few days to a week. If necessary, a cold compress can be applied for 10 minutes every hour during the first 4 hours.

Avoid exfoliating products, saunas, intense physical exercise, chlorinated pools, and sea bathing during the first 24 hours.

The treatment is not painless. You may reduce discomfort by taking 1 g of paracetamol one hour before the session.

In rare cases, burns and wounds may occur, and in extreme cases, permanent scarring may result—though this is extremely uncommon. Pigmentation changes (lighter or darker spots) may also occur in the treated area. This risk is higher for darker skin types or when sun exposure guidelines are not followed. These changes are difficult to treat but usually fade over several months to years with consistent sunscreen use.

The bright flashes of light during treatment can seem intense despite the use of protective goggles. The intense light is a reflection off the bones and is perceived by the optic nerve as internal light. There is no risk of eye damage, as protective goggles are used throughout the procedure.

Recommended aftercare (creams) to optimize treatment results

After IPL treatment, we recommend using effective creams to support and enhance your results:

  • C E Ferulic (day and night) – Antioxidants to protect against skin aging, strengthen the skin, and protect against free radicals.

  • H A Intensifier (day) – Provides hyaluronic acid, a natural moisture binder that regulates hydration, adds volume and firmness, and can be combined with fillers.

  • Mineral Radiance (sun protection) – A 100% ultra-light mineral sunscreen suitable for all skin types. Enhances natural skin tone and provides a beautiful glow. Water-resistant and free of parabens.
