Fillers

It is a non-permanent dermal filler consisting of 98% water and 2% hyaluronic acid — a substance naturally found in the body that helps retain the skin’s moisture and volume. Restylane treatments are tailored individually to enhance facial features, restore lost volume, and reduce wrinkles, resulting in a fresher and more youthful appearance. The procedure involves injecting the gel into selected areas with a fine needle, providing visible results immediately, while the full effect is achieved after 14 days. Common side effects may include temporary redness, swelling, or bruising, which usually disappear within a few days.

What are non-permanent fillers?

Non-permanent fillers are gels, most often made of the same type of hyaluronic acid found in our own connective tissue. Fillers can be used to lift the skin and restore lost volume. There are many different types of fillers with varying gel consistencies and particle sizes, which can be used to create tailored and individualized results based on each person’s needs, regardless of age.

Some fillers can be used to shape cheekbones and the chin, while others are better suited for deep furrows and folds, such as the lines running from the nose to the mouth, also called nasolabial folds. Some fillers are suitable for more superficial wrinkles, for example around the mouth. There are also specially developed fillers for the lips and for general skin hydration.

As we age, the amount of hyaluronic acid in the skin decreases, and the skin becomes looser. When non-permanent fillers are injected, the gel provides new volume in the skin, making it firmer. The filler integrates with the surrounding tissue, and since hyaluronic acid is continuously metabolized in the skin, the effect will gradually diminish.

To achieve a lasting result, it is important to have the treatment regularly and with a sufficient amount of filler. In some cases, it is optimal to have a full-face treatment course over several sessions, which can then be maintained with treatments using smaller amounts of fillers.

HIT is our newest treatment system, and we are the first clinic in Denmark to offer HIT.

HIT stands for ‘Holistic Individualised Treatments’. You may be familiar with Restylane, Restylane Skinbooster, Botox, and Sculptra treatments individually.

HIT is the balanced combination of these treatments, carefully tailored to you and performed by our skilled and experienced practitioners. The result is natural, balanced, and beautiful.

Which areas can be treated?

Non-permanent fillers can be used to treat the face, neck, décolleté, and hands.

How does the treatment work?

The product is injected into the desired treatment area with a very fine needle. The treatment is not completely painless; a stinging or burning sensation may occur but will quickly subside. As a rule, topical anesthetic creams are not applied before the treatment. In the case of lip treatments and the area around the mouth, you may choose to purchase a topical anesthetic cream at the pharmacy (e.g., Lipricain, Tapin, or Emla) and apply it at least 45 minutes before your appointment.

You should avoid touching the treated area for 4 hours after the treatment due to risk of infection. Make-up on the area is also discouraged during this period.

Until swelling has completely subsided, avoid extreme heat such as sun exposure and saunas. Direct cooling with ice is also not recommended.

What is the effect of the treatment?

The treatment’s effect depends on the amount and type of filler used. The duration varies greatly between individuals and depends on many factors, such as skin structure, blood circulation, the desired level of perfection, and the type of filler used. Typically, results in the lips last about 4-6 months, while the rest of the face lasts about 6-12 months. Tear trough treatments often last even longer.

At a possible follow-up appointment 2-3 weeks after the treatment, the filler will have settled into the tissue, and at this time it is possible to add more filler on top of the initially applied amount if further effect is needed. Additional filler is not expected to be applied free of charge, so expectations should be clarified before treatment. Treatment refunds are not given.

Combination treatment with botulinum toxin (“Botox”) can, in many cases, provide a longer-lasting result. It is advantageous to treat with botulinum toxin first and then with filler.

Who should not be treated?

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women

  • Relevant allergies

  • If you have infections in the area: acne, herpes, or other local infections

  • If you have connective tissue diseases

  • If you are taking immunosuppressive or blood-thinning medication

There should usually be at least 4 weeks between non-permanent fillers and laser treatments. Always consult your practitioner regarding treatment combinations.

Possible side effects?

Immediately after treatment, there is a risk of mild to moderate swelling, redness, tenderness, and bruising. These reactions typically disappear within a few days and in most cases within one week.

The lips swell the most, so most people prefer not to go to work the day after lip treatment. The area under the eyes, for example after a “tear trough” treatment, can in rare cases be swollen for more than one week. Bluish discoloration under the eyes and the folds from the nose to the mouth can, in rare cases, be long-lasting, also called the “Tyndall effect.”

Infection is rare. If signs occur, contact the clinic as antibiotic treatment may be necessary to reduce the risk of permanent scarring. Some individuals may develop acne-like eruptions in the treated area, and cold sores (herpes) can be reactivated.

In some cases, Hyaluronidase can be used to dissolve injected filler. However, you must not be allergic to wasps or bees and must remain in the clinic for 30 minutes after injection for observation of allergic reactions.

In very rare cases, redness lasting several months or the formation of granulomas (connective tissue nodules under or in the skin) can occur. Very rarely, permanent changes difficult to treat may remain. In extremely rare cases, injection into a blood vessel can cause sudden darkening or paleness of the skin worsening in the hours after treatment. It is important to contact the clinic immediately so treatment can be initiated as soon as possible. This also applies if vision is affected.

Failure to treat vision problems can, in extreme cases, lead to eye damage and, in very rare instances, blindness. This side effect has never been seen in Denmark but has been reported abroad.
