It is a minimally invasive procedure designed to improve the appearance of depressed scars, such as acne scars or deep wrinkles. The treatment involves inserting a fine needle under the skin to break the fibrous bands that pull the scar down toward the deeper tissue, allowing the skin to lift and smooth out naturally. This process also stimulates collagen production, which further improves the skin’s texture and elasticity over time. Subcision is often combined with other treatments such as microneedling, laser, or fillers for optimal results. It is performed under local anesthesia with minimal downtime and is suitable for most skin types. The treatment provides visible improvement after one session, with continued enhancement in the following weeks.

What is Subcision?
The subcision technique is a highly specialized surgical method used only in a few places in Denmark by dermatologists to treat acne scars when "remodeling" and the release of tethered scars is desired.
The treatment may be ideal before or after a course of fractional CO2 laser, fractional laser, Morpheus8, or TCA CROSS treatments, especially when deeper scars have not responded satisfactorily.
Typically, 2 treatments are offered with a minimum interval of 4 weeks.
How does the treatment work?
In subcision, a special needle is used to undermine the scar. Local anesthesia is administered. During the treatment, the needle is moved back and forth, which may cause bleeding under the skin. The area is then compressed. In some cases, a non-permanent filler or Sculptra may be injected simultaneously to further lift the scar/skin (see separate patient information).
What are the effects and possible side effects of the treatment?
With subcision, bruising/hematoma can occur in the skin for up to 2 weeks after treatment. The procedure itself may lead to scarring. Infection may also occur.
It is important to set expectations before the treatment. Refunds are not offered for the treatment.
Who cannot receive the treatment?
Pregnant women
Individuals with an active infection in the area, including active herpes
